For as long as I can remember Thornton Manor was on my dream venue list so it was one of the first viewings I booked and my god did it live up to expectations!
We arrived and were greeted by Georgie, oh Georgie, I have such a massive girl crush on her, warm, friendly and just a lovely person. She showed us round three of the venues at Thornton Manor in a vintage green Bentley (I know – amazing right?!).
There are three main venues for weddings, The Manor itself, The Lakeside Marquee and The Waterside Pavillion. Each one beautiful in their own way and all are worth a visit in your search for the perfect venue…
An impressive space and spectacular for couples who love the stately home vibe or want photos in truly immaculate gardens. It would be an incredible Winter Wedding venue with roaring log fires and comfy chairs galore. I also love that there are separate rooms for your ceremony space and Wedding Breakfast so people have movement throughout the day.
This is the cheapest option at Thornton (and I mean half the price of others), it’s a more laid back venue so if you’re imagining bunting, lawn games and fire pits then this is the one for you! One of the most special parts of choosing this venue is that you can choose to gamble on the weather and get married outside. You’d be married in front of The Thatched Cottage and on your walk to the aisle you’ll cross bridges over the large pond before taking those final steps towards your Groom!
I love this venue, it’s stunning, it completely stole my heart. I’m talking tears here, I was so convinced that this was the perfect venue for us but on my second viewing was heartbroken to realise it was fair too big for the more intimate wedding I’m trying to create 🙁
The Lakeside Marquee is what it says on the tin, it’s a marquee next to a lake but it’s also much more than that, something about this venue makes it feel so romantic. A decked area bridges the marquee to the lake so your guests can mingle and admire the gorgeous view and you can even arrive to your evening reception by boat!
I’m only going to go into detail about the Lakeside Marquee because it was the one I was most interested in but if the other venues sound more up your street then drop me a message and I can tell you some more about them.
The Ceremony Space
Imagine an outside wedding but with the comforts of being inside, which means no tears on the morning of your wedding if you see a few rain drops. Your ceremony here is in the marquee but the marquee walls are rolled up so you overlook a stunning view of the lake.
You can do what you want with this venue so your drinks reception can be anywhere! It
could be on the lawn, on the decked area or even inside the marquee – the choice is completely yours. You can provide your own drinks for the drinks reception for a corkage charge which I think is a great perk in such a high end venue.
As you’ve probably guessed, this is served in the marquee. The advantage of this marquee over some others you may see is that there are permanent toilets which are rather nice! You can seat up to 400 for a wedding breakfast here but you could quite comfortably have a ‘full’ wedding breakfast with 100 guests. The only downfall is that the wedding breakfast space can be seen from the ceremony space so I suggest asking your venue dresser to put up a fake wall so that you can separate the two areas.
You can basically have whatever you want! As long as it’s from one of their preferred caterers which you can on the website. We particularly liked the look of Barretts who are the most ‘foodie’ of those on offer. We sampled one of their brownies and it was extremely gooey and insanely dense, Barretts also let you have a tasting session with them for £100 before you book them and if you do book them, they knock £100 off your final bill – winner!
The reveal, oh the reveal. This is a real wow factor moment in The Lakeside Manor, unless you have a trained eye, you’d never know that there was a whole extra room hidden behind the white wall. When it’s time for your first dance the team will open the reveal and your guests will be shocked to see you and your husband stood on the black and white dancefloor behind it!
Each venue has one bridal suite that is allocated specifically for that venue but all of the other accommodation is spread out in cottages across the estate and these are booked on a first come first served basis. Some of the cottages look more tired than others so why not suggest your guests stay in the flashier Thornton Hall hotel up the road?
I’m going to reveal our actual venue in my next post and I am so excited to share it with you 🙂
