This weekend was a monumental one for us as far as planning our wedding goes, it was our one year until we get married milestone. The 14th July will be our future anniversary so we weren’t going to let it pass by without a fuss.
On Friday, we cracked open one of our engagement presents (a lovely bottle of Bollinger) and went to the insanely good Volta for some delicious food – the fried chicken is a must!
We also used the milestone as an opportunity to gather our nearest and dearest for a ‘1 year until I say ‘I do’ BBQ’. I’d love to say that we were blessed with glorious sunshine for the occassion but if I’m honest, we spent the morning of the BBQ driving around in the rain shopping for a gazebo and I didn’t even manage to shower until our guests started to arrive – nightmare!
Jonny was in charge of the BBQ and put on an impressive spread – burgers, sausages, macaroni cheese, pulled pork, chicken, halloumi kebabs and he even created a special menu for our vegan friend. I was in charge of desserts and ‘tarting the house up’ so I made mini eton mess puddings and homemade Pimms ice lollies for everyone. I didn’t have too much time to decorate but I did have chance to pick up a few bits and bobs during the week, I absoloutely loved the blackboard bunting we hung up in the gazebo (Poundland btw).
We had about 20 people join us, including three our favourite little humans so I put on a few games too, we had hoopla, boules, hook a duck and the obligatory bubbles! We had such a lovely day, it makes me so happy to know that our friends and family all know each other and won’t be strangers on the big day. Plus, I love to host so it’s always nice to have an excuse for a party.
It doesn’t feel like two minutes since we booked our venue and it was actually over 6 months ago now. It scares me how fast this next year is going to go and I’ve realised how important it is to make the most of these moments so I’d definitely recommend making a fuss of this day!
I didn’t get too many photos of our party, which always seems to be the way when we host, but here’s a little glimpse into our weekend. After such a fun weekend, it’s also safe to say that today has been spent eating cookies and watching Say Yes To The Dress repeats.
Have you done anything to mark your 1 year countdown? I’d love to hear about it 🙂
