I am in love with The Lake District. I fell madly, deeply in love with it when I was having a battle with my anxiety 3 years ago. As soon as I approached those gorgeous, green hills I felt like my anxiety was easing and since then it’s been a safe haven of mine.
Its calming scenery aside, I’m also obsessed with the fact it’s home to the best food, wine and hotels in the country. So, instead of Christmas presents this year we decided to put our present money towards an overnight stay at one of our favourite hotels in Bowness, The Linthwaite. We also booked a table for lunch at a newly Michelin Starred restaurant in Grasmere called The Forest Side.
First up was lunch, a delightful 5 course lunch tasting menu including canapes and some unusual petit fours. Known as ‘The Bait Menu’, the lunch is extremely reasonable at £35 for the experience and if you’re a Michelin Star newbie, don’t worry, pretention and brains aren’t anywhere to be seen in this gothic establishment.
Then we headed to our hotel in Bowness and were warmly welcomed by Nick to our room of choice (24, if you were wondering). We got settled and did some exploring in the village including a drink at The Fizzy Tarte and I had a little splurge on some discount candles in one of the local shops.
How amazing is the lounge at The Linthwaite?
I also thought I’d practise some photography while we were somewhere so beautiful:
